Jigme Singye Wangchuck served as Bhutan's Fourth Dragon King. His father died in 1972 when the Crown Prince was only sixteen. At this tender age, Jigme Singye assumed the mantle of Bhutan's leadership. He focused his efforts on socio-economic development while preserving the nation's culture. He is credited with coining the term “Gross National Happiness” and adopting a system of governance that addresses comprehensive aspects of people's well-being instead of overly emphasizing the internationally accepted norm of Gross National Product.
